I just read on heise.de (German) that Google Gadgets can be used on webpages now. And Opera Widgets are simple webpages. Should be a perfect match. …
Without any Widget experience I managed in 5 minutes to make an Opera template to show the Google Gadget. Well, it took about 4 minutes to download the Widget templates and generate the Gadget code – a simple (?) line of JavaScript generated online 😉 . It doesn't look nice and it is not configurable but it worked. I'm not into JavaScript and I am already busy with a lot of other things to do Gadget Widgets myself. But I'd suppose there may be lot's of new Opera Widgets soon.

Especially important for Widgets:
You agree not to modify or remove the "Gadgets powered by Google" text and link or the "+Google" button or other promotional text or images provided by Google with the gadget code.
And the space of the "+Google" button can be replaced by ads. And of course there may be technical changes.
Well, here is my quick and dirty Widget after another 5 minutes of mostly unsuccessful tweaking: a countdown until Halloween

Some Vista Gadgets are easy to modify into Opera’s Widgets too.
That’s interesting. Seems widgets could really become something inside the open (W3C) standard for widget that was initiated by Opera.Eestlane: is it possible to get access to system function with this some Vista Gadgets that could work with Opera?
