Future Opera: History – what happened until now

You may wonder what makes my head bloated with Opera stuff? Well, that's an own story.
While I used Opera only as my favourite and more and more customized internet tool for a long time until last year, I had to think about a new job after working on my PhD. I've been fascinated about the way Google is about to change the world. I saw a lot of pretty similar things in Opera (most interesting the same philosophy with Gmail and M2). And I started to have some ideas (ie connecting M2 with Gmail as an MS-Exchange killer) and made some outlines of my ideas about Opera UI. And although I like (only) some of the stuff MS will introduce with Ribbon I think it will be a big challenge in aspect of market share and I think Opera has good premises to be even better.
With my professional experience in functional design and application management and my focus on strategy and Opera users I already thought about an unsolicited application at Opera ASA when I looked to opera-jobs and found a job opening which perfectly matched my own reflections. Senior Product Manager Desktop. That was in the beginning of March and at end of March I sent my application as XHTML with some advanced CSS techniques (a already reduced part of it is the first example for rendering bug in projection in O9 weeklys šŸ™ ).

Since the days I wrote and designed my application I looked around a lot in Opera Community, the pages about Opera ASA and especially the O9 weeklys (before that I've been here only from time to time and posted some comments to Opera mobile  and Widgets – I ask myself wether the OperaWidgets tab was born because of my proposal about an widget-control-widget – well I think it was an obvious conclusion and probably the Opera people already worked on it).

I still have no response to my application (except for the automatic reply) and the answer to my phone call was I have to wait until there will be a reply via email…

And there piled up more and more ideas in my head. And my thoughts went more and more towards seeing my ideas about Opera and my strategy delivered with my application make sense and match to become a big whole. So I felt I just would have to go to Oslo and present my ideas for some days and discuss them for some weeks.

My head bloated I had to stop using my computer for a day to get down to myself and I decided to pin my thoughts here to free myself.

  1. Sad day.Today, almost 2 month after I sent my application, I received a first email from Opera HR: there is no opening suitable to my profile at the moment.I will continue with my posts about future Opera, although I have to try to cut my time for doing so. More times there will be only headwords and I expect it will be even more misleading sometimes – don’t hesitate to ask for details. Additionally I’ll ask Opera for some function as advisor/consultant for a few month or alternatively for a short visit at Opera just to exchange ideas about future and future future Opera.
